Our School

Here Since 1904, Our school was originally opened to pupils in 1907 .

Initially, Corrandrum was a one-roomed, two-teacher mixed school.

The Irish translation of Corrandrum (Corr and Droma) means “the hill on the ridge”.

Children from the three neighbouring parishes-Cummer, Lackagh, and Annaghdown attended the school. The first teacher in Corrandrum was a Moylough man, Joe Carter. He was assisted by Mrs Hanley from Corofin.

Between the years of 1907 and 1965, eleven teachers taught in the school. In 1965, the “new school”, was built by Rhatigans. This new school was a three-roomed school with three additional shelters at the back of the school. In the late 1970’s a fourth room was added to the school along with the development of a play area and football pitch…

Our vision is of a literate and numerate child leaving the school, who is well-balanced, confident, content, responsible and independent in all aspects of his/her future life.

We want him/her also to be able to contribute positively to society in a balanced, well thought-out manner, while retaining respect for him/herself, others and the world.

World Book Day

During this week we promote the enjoyment of books and reading. We aim to encourage our pupils to explore the pleasure of books and reading. The children all receive a book token. We also have a competition in each class where we write our own books, we have prizes for best author, illustrator and best book title. We also dress up as characters from our favourite books.

MARCH

St. Patrick’s Day

We celebrate our national saint with a special mass in St. Brendan’s Church, Corrandulla. The children and staff provide the music by playing various musical instruments including tin whistles, guitar, piano and percussion.

MARCH
